Overcoming a fear
September 4th, 2009 · Add a Comment
For some reason Elliot was scared of face painting and couldn’t be encouraged to give it a try. We’ve been out a few times where he could have had it done, but it must have seemed too scary or something.
Today at MOPS, out in creche, without us even there to cajole him, he gave in.
He seems to be well over his fear now; after some convincing I managed to wash it off in the bath, he was sure that he wanted to wear it to bed !
Playing the “Guitar”

Apparently all musical instruments with strings are guitars. Thanks to Mike at MPK for this bit of information !! Took Elliot to a cushion concert put on by WASO. They made it a lot of fun for kids. The most memorable bit was apparently when the presenter fell asleep and had to be woken by the band, I mean orchestra. They were even allowed to have some hands on after the concert. A cute afternoon.

Reminiscing already

Julia was looking through some old photos recently. We are blessed to have, shall we say, plenty of photos of our Elliot. Anyway she came across a particular shot that brought about some feelings of nostalgia.
Even though our Elliot has only just turned 3, Julia was reflecting on the absolute innocence of a 2 year old. Here is Elliot almost a year ago, holding his favourite puppy by the ear and clutching a box with a bottle with a lid inside; his most treasured possessions on that day.
We miss that little Elliot.
The little Elliot of today is growing and developing fast. You can see his mind thinking and processing ideas. Concepts mentioned just once come back a few days later and you think “wow he really is taking stuff in”. A day doesn’t go by without a few hundred why?s as he seeks to make sense of the world around him.
Check back in a year to see if we are reminiscing again about the Elliot of today. Perhaps we will be
This is a good time to remind ourselves to treasure every moment.
Who painted that ?

Sometimes as a parent you are left without words. How do you answer the unanswerable question ? How do you give a proper answer to a question that just makes you want to literally laugh out loud ?
Let me explain why I seek answers to these pressing questions.
It seems Elliot has gotten the message about God’s creativity, well he is at least chewing the idea over in his head anyway.
We were recently looking at a beautiful sunset and Elliot was wondering where it came from. I thought it was helpful to say that the sunset was God painting the sky.
We knew that Elliot was seriously considering the sunset story when a few days later, after sitting on the toilet like a big boy (i.e. no booster seat) a little face peered into the bowl and looked up and asked “Papa, who painted my poo ?”.
So you now understand about offering a serious reply to a question that makes you laugh out loud.
I’m not sure that I was in a state to give an acceptable reply.
